An Analysis of Slogans - Part One of a series examining the deeper meaning of a simple, yet deceptively powerful device employed by popular movements down through the ages - the almighty slogan

SAVE THE PLANET!

I think it's about time we called a spade a spade.

Those in favor of saving the planet are not genuinely worried about the planet - they are in fact worried about the survival of the Human Race. Global Warming, or Climate Change (whichever catch phrase you prefer) is, at best, an insignificant threat to the planet itself, but it certainly does seem to make things increasingly more difficult for the living creatures on it's surface...including the Human creatures.
So when I see a bumper sticker on a beat up Volvo missing it's muffler that reads, "Save the Planet", I know that what it really means is "Save the Human Race". And, as it has always been with the Human Race, it is only our own necks we are concerned about. So enough with this save the planet talk already - and if you're heartfelt desire really is to save the planet, then I suppose your aim should be the complete extinction of the Human Race, because ultimately, we are really the only thing that is wrong with this planet.

  1. We are a creature that is so manipulative and analytical we think we are at the top of the food chain. Anybody who has taken the time to study nature realizes we are a part of it, and in no way above or below any other living thing. We are all so tiny and fleeting that there is nothing to save. It all passes, ourselves included.
The universe has a way of erasing and reforming energy. Everything we know is subject to those laws even if we do not understand them fully, and the ones we do understand only lead to more confusion, bewilderment and fear. I'd argue the people who want to save this planet fear oblivion. Since I'm a product of it, I embrace it. What the fuck makes our planet matter more than everything else out there?
